Sick.

Anyone who spends nearly $5k on a pair of pumps needs to be shot.

Christian Louboutin Simple Croc Pump: $4,645.

What’s with the ridiculous price, Christian? Was the croc killed to make these the famous croc from Romancing the Stone or something?

I get my sexy pumps from Target, thank you very much. Like these babies. And they’re only $29.99! They may not be real croc and they may not last 50 years, but do I really need them to? I get sick of most shoes after a few years anyways.

PS. Even if I had the money I would never waste it on shoes this expensive. I’d rather go to Paris for a week, which you could easily do for $5k.

Disability Featured on “Heroes”

NBC’s “Heroes” has revealed that the speedy Daphne has Cerebral Palsy. Quite unexpected! What are your thoughts on their portrayal of someone with this kind of disability? I haven’t watched the most recent episode yet, so I don’t feel I can give a qualified opinion.

I WILL say though that she looks REALLY akward in those crutches! (the AB actress that is)

If you are looking for an in-depth treatise on Daphne’s disability by someone more knowledgeable than me, click here for an interesting blog entry from ePlay.

Cropped Jackets Really Are The Shiz

Well people, I finally took my own advice and bought a cropped jacket at Target last week. Mine was a different version than the one shown here (couldn’t find it on their site to show you), but the cut is pretty much exactly the same as the one I’m featuring (Mossimo Black Cropped Jacket – Chestnut, for $13.99).

After looking for over 15 years as a wheelchair-user, and as a jacket expert who I lives in a cold climate (winters that last from Oct – April), I’ve looked long and hard, and yes, the cropped jacket is BY FAR the best design for wheelchair-users. I finally found the holy grail of jackets! omgz!

It may not be as warm (because your lower waist isn’t covered), but if you wear an extra long top underneath, it really doesn’t matter. Now, the reason cropped jackets work SO great for the following reasons:

– The cropped waist requires less fabric to make the jacket, and as a result, stops the jacket from bunching up behind your back. For many people in chairs, their balance is wobbly. And fabric bunching up behind you can totally make your balance even worse (except for you lucky lower paras out there. Bitches ;).

– And see the cropped sleeves (also known as 3/4 length)? Well with these shorter sleeves, it makes it AMAZINGLY easier to put on. Coming from a C6 quad (hello no triceps), this is a huge deal. And for people who push themselves, cropped sleeves will never get caught in your wheels or get dirtied by them.

So there you have it. Now you know that cropped jackets are your best option. So what are you waiting for?? Go out and buy one!!

The Thanksgiving Show

Listen to my latest No Free Rides podcast for Xable.com. It’s our annual Thanksgiving show and this year, I interviewed a paraplegic woman by the name of Julia, who lives in the Texas panhandle, and has been cooking the entire Thanksgiving feast for 6 years (and she’s only 26!).

Julia is married and is your quintecessential Texan lady. So listen to me BS with her about all the recipes she makes, tricks and tips she has for wheelers out there, and even find out how her and her hubby met.

Have a tasty Thanksgiving dinner everyone! I know I will.

“Video Courtesy of Shell Oil Company”

http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2008/11/081124-giant-squid-magnapinna.html

Check out this video of a giant squid with ELBOWS, people. It’s seriously one of the most disturbing things you’ll ever see. Why is this video posted by National Geographic, and courtesy of the Shell Oil Company (taken from a camera set-up on an oil rig), worth watching?

A: It’s alive.

B: It’s really fucking long.

C: It looks like a bonafide alien.

Hmmm…maybe it is??

Best Tire Pump?

I’ve decided to put an end to allowing my wheelchair from disrupting my social life.

I don’t ALWAYS need to be in my 314lb powerchair. No siree bob. I’m lucky enough to have a lightweight manual, so I mine as well use it right? SO many of my friends, since the economic-crisis hit, have been throwing parties at their homes instead of going out, and I’m sick of missing out on all the fun.

Time to be ok with getting lifted up flights of stairs, Tiff.

There’s just one teeny tiny problem: The wheels on my manual lose air really fast, and going to the gas station in freezing cold Minnesota weather isn’t exactly what I want to do in order to pump up my wheels. I need an air pump for my own.

So to all of you manual wheelers out there, what’s your favorite BRAND and TYPE of wheelchair tire pump, and most importantly, why?

Thanks in advance!
