But I’m Not Preggers, Tiff!

It might be mighty hard to swallow the idea of buying maternity jeans if YOU’RE NOT PREGGERS, but the Gap has some seriously awesome Demi panel Long and Lean jeans that are the perfect solution for those who can get their pants on themselves, but can’t fasten the buttons.

The “Demi panel” is essentially an elastic band that’s in the place of where the buttons/zipper would be. And if you’re wearing a longer shirt that covers that panel, no one will be the wiser as to what kind of jeans you actually got on.

Keli, a para, recently gave me this stellar tip. She particularly adores the Gap’s Long and Lean style (as do I) because they tend to look the best in a seated position. Even though the Demi panel jean is expensive ($68.00), it’ll be worth it if it gives you the freedom again to wear jeans without anybody’s assistance.

Baby is not included.

Target Buy of the Week: Rainbow Bikini

This is official gay-pride bikini, people! Composed of stripes from every color in the ranbow and fashioned with sexy old rings (the bandeau-version; not pictured), this rainbow bikini will definitely get you noticed by the gay boys and hottie straight men alike.

$14.99 for each piece

Get your size now before the cheapo fashionistas beat you to it!

You know…I’m impressed. Way to go Target buyers. It seems that with each passing year, their swimsuit collection has gotten exponentially better. As I checked out all of their new suits today, I honestly couldn’t decide which one I liked best. There were too many to choose from. From the Space-Dye Swimwear Set to their Eyelet Triangle Swim Top, their sexified sunbathing options are endless.

And if you’re wondering how a girl in a wheelchair pulls off a bikini, easy; I just stop eating between April – June.  No seriously, my body has never and will never be “bikini perfect,” but I don’t care. My quad gut has yet to manifest it’s uglyself. So…I’m going to enjoy it this semi-ok bod while it lasts.

Gilly Hicks

Watch out Victoria’s Secret! You finally have a worthy competitor!

This year, Abercrombie & Fitch launched their new lingerie store called Gilly Hicks/Sydney. It’s casual, young lingerie, targeted towards women in their late teens/early twenties…and even though there are only 4 currently open in the US, one very well may be opening soon near you.

I’m lucky, a Gilly just opened earlier this month at the Mall of America (right by my house). I checked it out today because some of my girlfriends told me it wasn’t wheelchair accessible (the store has steps in the front and multiple levels), but luckily, they were wrong. There are hidden ramps placed strategically throughout the store.

After my excursion there today, I mut confess I’m in love with this place. The lighting in the store was moody and hella sexy, there were paintings of hot/semi-nude men on the walls (finally!), and the entire store was made up of separate rooms as if you were meandering through a quaint, richy-rich home on the Australian coast. Architecturally very cool.

Anyways, I’m only posting this blog because the store endeared me for two reasons. Reason #1: They have an extensive bra line where each bra is named after a female first name (“Courtney,” “Ashley,” “Miranda,”etc). I don’t know if you remember this or not, but way back in the day Victoria’s Secret did the same thing, but now only their “Ashley” and “Emma” bras remain :/ I’ve missed this bra-naming technique for years because it’s so girly and fun, so it’s nice to see this naming-idea brought back!

Reason #2: Their signature lilac-scented perfume, La Perouse. It’s OMG divine and if you go into the store, you’ll instantly smell it. I bought their tiniest bottle for $44.00. My beau isn’t really into floral perfumes, but I don’t care. Lilacs are my fav flower hand-down.

As it stands, you can’t buy any of their stuff online (yet), but in the meantime, check-out their website to view their sexy black & white movie featuring topless chics and bare-assed men.

Hmm-hmm-tasty.

Dress by Design

While flipping through a Reader’s Digest last (while week waiting for my van to get fixed), I ran across this intruiging build-your-own-dress website called Dress by Design. For $200, you can pick from 6 different styles, hundreds of different color and fabric options, and create the perfect dress.

I really love this idea. It’s an easy way to get just the dress you’re looking for, without the hassle of going out and driving around for naught. Now, if I only had a fun event coming-up, then I just might get one made for myself.

A Textile Survey

Even though we’re all wheelchair-users, our needs regarding clothes still vary person to person. I know that for me, since I’m 5’10 with really long legs, and I sit all day, I need extra-long inseams on all of my pants, but not every other gimp is like me…

I also need:

– A long torso in my shirts so they don’t ride up, exposing my belly.

– Non-bell/flowy sleeves.

– Skirts that aren’t above the knee.

– No long jackets; they just bunch-up behind my back.

– Fabric that moves and no bulky seams.

– No itchy fabric like wool.

With that said, what do you look for in pants, shirts, jackets, etc, when buying clothes for your non-standing lifestyle?

Release Your Inner-Girly Girl

Channel Mariah Carey from Cribs (remember her extensive pink babydoll collection in her NYC condo? Crazy, yet impressive…), and head on down to Target for…

Tiff’s Target Buy of the Week! (a new weekly blog series)

This week I’m featuring the new line of babydolls by Gillian & O’Malley, which Target is selling for V-Day. I came across this “Young Pink” chiffon babydoll for $19.99 yesterday afternoon, and my inner-girly girl nearly peed her pants. For shiz.

Impulse-buy forthwith!

So of course, I wore it to bed last night and was even MORE pleased with it. Why? It fit my fake boobs (yes, I have implants) like a glove! And let me say right now, that that’s not an easy task….

With the light-as-air like pink chiffon ruffles sitting on my lap like a perfectly frosted cake, and the tiny pink bows pressed up against my bosom like a festoon of hungry leeches….it felt like it was custom-made (did I mention it comes with a matching pink chiffon thong?!). I felt like Marie Antoinette at her most decadent.

I bought a small. Sometimes tight ‘n snug is a million times better than roomy. And I think most straight men would agree 😉

The Scarf

Who’s the wheelchair-girl that’s constantly reminding all the other wheelchair-girls out there the neverending importance of accessories in our wardrobe? That’s right. That would be me 🙂 And today, in early January, it’s a perfect time to remind all of you the current trendiness and ease that is the Pashmina scarf (yes it’s back). But BEWARE, it’s only IN right if it’s tied in a very specific way (see image to the left. Image courtesy of Esprit).

Now, I’m no knot-expert by any means, but I’m seeing fashionistas everywhere donning these things. And it dawned on me the other day what an easy add-on this would be, and look great while you’re at it, for women in wheelchairs to utilize. So go out and buy yourself a brand new brightly-colored thin Pashmina to add to your Winter/Spring wardrobe this year. You’ll be glad you so, especially on your laundry days 🙂

Style

Looking absolutely drop dead amazing in a wheelchair has never been easier.

From creating your own look by copying outfits on Pinterest and Polyvore to shopping at one of the adapted clothing companies (below), there’s no excuse to put on sweats ever again.

Here are the current companies creating garments for people who use wheelchairs.

And vist here to view all my posts on wheelchair fashion (where I share easy tricks that anyone can do).

IZ Adaptive: This Canadian-based label was founded by high-fashion designer Izzy Camilleri, who after meeting a quadriplegic and designing a leather jacket for her, became interested in designing seated-fashion. She creates clothing for men and women, as well as trench coats, ball gowns and wedding dresses.

AG Apparel: Founded by Jersey Girl Jordan Silver, this US-based company has been featured in O magazine for their paneled “Morgan” skirt. This line is know for their versatile pieces that can be worn several ways (watch my video reviews).

LegaWear: Based in Sweden, this company creates custom suits for the seated-frame and was founded by disabled Swede, David Lega.

WheelieChix-Chic: A very feminine line from the UK, WheelieChix-Chic has been a favorite of mine for years.

Heels With Wheels: Based in Houston, Texas, this company was founded by Angela Irick, a C2 quad. They create loungewear that can be worn from the pool to dinner (to bed!).
