I think this is fantastic and I’m having trouble believing that advocates are pissed over this. For one thing, we complain that there’s not enough disability in the media, and for another thing, what about the subliminal messages behind her performance? She is using a wheelchair as an art form, whereas most people just hate on wheelchairs. She used it in her performance by choice and that just makes me respect her so much more. She’s embracing the idea of disability as we all should, and in addition to that she opens up a door to possibility. Wheelchair singers? How many of those have we seen? This just goes to prove that it’s perfectly possible.
